Personalisation
When you use our devices, platform or services, we and our partners use unique device identifiers, cookies, pixel tags, web beacons and other similar technologies to:
• ensure the security and proper functioning of the devices and services (e.g., help you access channels or stream content, or to search for content and navigate between the screens);
• personalise your user experience (e.g., remember your preferences and provide personal recommendations based on usage);
• show you ads based on your interests and measure their effectiveness; and
• perform analytics (e.g., understand user behavior and analyze trends and improve our products and services).
When you select “No, don’t personalise my experience” during set up for this device or when you do not select “Personalise experience” from Settings > Privacy > Personalisation, Roku will not use these technologies to personalise the user experience on your device, perform analytics that are not essential to your device or Roku’s platform or services, or show interest-based ads on your device. You will, however, still see ads but they will be less relevant to you. Roku will continue to collect data that are necessary to provide services to you, maintain the security and proper functioning of our platform and services, including your device, user account or any content. Your choice will affect only this device. For more information about how Roku uses your data, visit https://www.roku.com/legal.
Channel Providers: Roku will make available to channel providers your preference about data being collected and sent from your device on an automated basis, but they are solely responsible for honoring that preference. Regardless of the choices you have made, channel providers may separately ask you to agree to their collection of data from your device on an automated basis (e.g., during your account activation with the channel provider or while you are using the channel provider’s app). If you gave such consent to a channel provider and change your mind later, you will need to change your settings within the channel as provided by the channel provider or contact the provider directly. For information on a specific channel provider’s advertising and privacy practices, consult that channel’s privacy policy.
